Claybuster tells that their CB0178-12 wad can be loaded with 7/8 or 1 ounce of shot. In loading the 1 ounce the shot is above the shot cup formed by the petals of the wad. Any problem in doing this? Lots of room to work for 1.25oz of bismuth and 25+ grain Longshot. I usually load 27.5-29grain. I think the low pressure loads were targeting a niche in the loading community. Using components that are available now while introducing a new wad is a good move IMO. The more appropriate wads for your 3/4 oz. loads are Claybuster's CB0178-12 clone of the ridiculously overpriced gray WAA12L or Down Range's XXL Pink. All three mentioned are dedicated 7/8 oz. wads and will work very well with 3/4 oz. loads, but the latter two have slightly narrower base diameters and are specifically for non-straight-walled hulls.I was thinking of reducing powder drop on the Alliant Extra-Lite recipe, but given the low pressure results for the 1,150 f/s published load, I think I will be risking squib loads with Extra-Lite trying to get to 1,000 f/s territory. You're going to want a tapered hull to load light payloads in 12ga because the specialty wads (claybuster cb0178 and cb0175) are for tapered hulls.
