If your cervix is very thick, not as great. If it’s nice and thin it might be better. BUT cervixes can thin out very quickly with nice contractions. We call this effacement (and we usually measure it in a percent — so they’ll say your cervix is 50% effaced). Honestly, anything less than about 70% is still pretty thick.Averages sure but you could be dilated for weeks before labor or you could be a 0 up until labor starts. One way or another once you hit 6 cm baby is coming hell or high water. 36 weeks is really early to expect dilation also, especially if its your first.I was a fingertip yesterday at my 36 week appointment.
