They are several class action lawsuits against Lenovo because of the widespread problems with their hinges. Mine exploded breaking the screen. I just had my hinges, actually the whole top of the laptop, replaced last month. I have 3 year Ultimate Support plus ADP coverage and there was no hassle.
If it really bothers you, you could return it and try your luck with a new one. As long as both sides are connected and firm it should be alright. You could try to fix it yourself if you want. We've always had some issue with Lenovo hinges on CBs. There's only so much force those can take over time and too many students carry devices open by the screen. Eventually the sets break or the hinge is bent out. I order SuperGlue by the case and we do repair; but as you said the only true fix is a hinge and backplate replacement.
