There's just no need for 4 players. It's too excessive. Most importantly, though, 4v4 just isn't viable for a casual audience. If we're talking about a competitive, high level stage, then 4v4 really does take Rocket League to the next level.

A lot of the time it is 2-3 of us and we play ranked. Sometimes we get a 4th and play unranked Chaos. But when we have all 5 on, we end up in a private match and are unsure what to do. Sometimes we put the two best players on a team and play 2v3. Sometimes we randomize and have someone on the 3 man team play as a floater.
