I think you'd be pretty safe assuming a ship date of later 1965 or early 1966, but the only way you'll ever know for sure is with a factory letter. Hope this helps, teesur. My 28-2 has serial # S265XXX, and was purchased new on 9-28-65, according to the invoice. Not sure of actual ship date, but it was prior to 66-67.

The full serial number is found on the butt of the grip frame. You will have to remove the grips to see it.The model 29 began using a 3 letter prefix in 1983 during production of the 29-3. It can't be a no dash model 29 and have a 3 letter prefix serial number. It also impossible to determine value without knowing the condition.
