John deere 318 no spark.
May 28, 2022 · Ok so I have an Onan in my 318 a P218 (I think no markings) that is not getting spark. I crank and crank but nothing even with starter fluid. It was running and I was mowing then it lost power like it was on one cyl then came back I though it was fuel related. but no. It did that 3 times.

With a spark plug in the coil wire, and the plug touching ground (negative), touch the wire on the negative side of the coil to ground and then remove it repeatedly. 318 p218 no spark during crank. I picked up a low hour (401) 318. It does not have spark during crank, but as you let the key spring back to run it will fire. If you play with it, it will eventually catch and run indefinitely. I tried a known good switch I had and got the same result. I have the wiring schematic my local dealer printed for me.
