I can't make mine misfire by pointing them down. Sounds like the one that misfires pointed down needs a firing pin with that many rounds fired in it.

I have an old .22 caliber Marlin Model 39 (maybe model 39 A, hard to see exactly). It seems to work OK except there is no firing pin in it. The serial number under the lever action is "F 1134?", so I think originally made in 1949. Also has a engraving inside the action that has a date of 9/26/59.This looks like a standard bolt that Marlin used at that time. I have a manual from a Model 15YN and a lot of the parts are identical. I am thinking that this firing pin spring is a standard part used in a lot of guns. However the Model 15YN uses the same firing pin, but the spring P/N is 420994. Recently recieved my 1897 Marlin 22 back from the gunsmith , had it relined and a new 39 bolt and firing pin from Dick's Gun shop also. After 20 rounds fired it wouldn't extract. I looked and saw there was a burr at the top entrance of the chamber, where the firing pin hits.
