The 39-2 was produced between 1971-1982 and, according to the Supica/Nahas catalog, the last 39-2, serial number A747148, was shipped. from the factory on 15 Feb 1983. Dec 16, 2020 · Very nice 357. S&W did not use model numbers until 1958. In 1958 the 357 magnum was assigned the model number 27. Many would call your revolver a pre model 27. Take care of it. Those 3.5' model 27's are worth pretty big money. Most nice onessell for over $1200, and yours is nice.

AS far as I know the only true place S&W put the serial number is on the bottom of the grip frame. On some models they would also put the serial number on the frame, cylinder, and sometimes on the grips, but varied by model.
